Try the free routes before you pay anyone
- List it free on Marketplace or a Buy Nothing group. A sound couch with a stain still moves fast at $0 with "must haul it yourself" in the description.
- Check your bulk pickup rules. Some Metro East addresses get a scheduled bulk collection. Apartment and condo addresses usually do not — the exact gap above.

Sectionals and sleeper sofas are different problems
A sectional is the easier of the two. Sections separate at the connector brackets, so a three-piece sectional becomes three manageable carries instead of one impossible one.
A sleeper sofa is the one that breaks backs. Folded inside the shell is a steel bed frame with a mattress on it, sitting dead center where nobody can get a hand underneath. The balance point is wrong, and the frame will drop open on a stairwell if the latch has aged out. We strap it shut before it leaves the room.

Access drives the job more than the couch does. A ground-floor room with a straight shot to the driveway is a ten-minute pickup; the same couch on a second floor with a 90-degree landing is different work entirely.
What we look at before quoting
- Which floor the piece is on, and whether the stairwell turns
- Doorway width, and whether the slab can come off its hinges
- Basement stairs — narrow treads and low headroom are common in older Edwardsville and Glen Carbon housing stock
- Distance from the door to where a truck can actually park
Tight interior turns defeat a 7-foot sofa on the diagonal. When that happens the piece comes apart in the room, and we say so on the walkthrough rather than after we have started.

Where the couch goes after we load it
Sound furniture goes to a reuse outlet when one will take it. Pieces that failed a donation screen will not pass ours either, so those get broken down: wood and steel frames recycle, foam and upholstery go to a transfer station.
